Who We Are

Southland Eye was started in 1955 by Dr. Sol Rocke under the company name Rocke Optometrists. Dr. Rocke’s first practice was at 63rd and King Drive in Chicago. He moved from Chicago to the south suburbs in the late 60’s and opened his new office in Homewood’s Cherry Creek Plaza, then moved to 183rd and Kedzie.

Dr. Lipschultz purchased the practice from Dr. Rocke in 1986, and converted the name to Southland Eye Associates. The office outgrew the Homewood location in just a few years and moved to its current location at the intersection of Vollmer Road and Governors Highway in Olympia Fields. Dr. Lipschultz’s wife, Dr. Sue Cotter, also provided much-needed specialty care for children with vision disorders while also a professor at the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Cotter took a position at the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton in 1997, and Dr. Lipschultz became a commuter husband!

Through the years, our office has been at the forefront of vision care for the community. We strive to stay on the cutting edge of new developments in contact lenses, children’s vision care, and low-vision technology. We invest in keeping our testing technology at the forefront, allowing us to provide the best vision care possible!
